A careful balance of first fill and refill casks accentuates the assorted spices within Redbreast’s characteristic full and complex flavour, amplified through additional maturation. Made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley and then triple distilled in copper pot stills, Redbreast 15 is composed exclusively of Pot Still Whisky matured in the finest oak casks for no less than 15 years.
The first official reference to the brand name ‘Redbreast’ appears in August 1912, when Gilbeys were selling “Redbreast” J.J. Liqueur whisky 12 Years Old, described as one of their “famous” brands. The name ‘Redbreast’ itself refers to the bird, Robin Redbreast, and is attributed to the then Chairman of Gilbey’s, who was an avid bird-fancier. In 2005, the seminal Redbreast 15 was released. This bottling was produced for long-time champion and French distributor of Redbreast, La Maison du Whisky, Paris, as part of their 50th Anniversary celebrations. The whisky became an instant hit and in the following year, and was chosen by Jim Murray as the whisky Bible’ Irish whisky of the Year’.
On the nose, Redbreast 15 Years Old is full and rich with a complex yet balanced mix of berry fruits and aromatic oils. The tasting note is fully round and mellow with the succulence of fleshy fruit combined with spices and toasted wood with a long and sophisticated finish.
The premium Irish whisky, Redbreast 15 Years Old, like many Irish Whiskies, is best served and enjoyed in a plain whisky glass on its own or on the rocks with ice where you can savour all the existential flavours.
